( Its been a while since my last post. I have been really busy lately and I had very little time to built model kits. Currently, things has tone down quite a bit and now I have more time to built model kits and post reviews. So here you go an update after a long hiatus.)
The Gundam Exia was featured in the anime Gundam OO and the anime has 2 seasons which each season consist of 25 episodes each. The anime was aired in the year of 2009 and the MG gundam exia was also released shortly after the anime was aired. The Gundam OO was also one of my favorite Gundam Series. The anime itself has really good graphics and it also has very well animated fights.
The MG Gundam Exia was released at the year of 2009. It has a approximate height of 15cm and it also one of the few Gundam models kits that allowed LEDS to be mounted on it to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the Model kits. Unlike most of the MG Kit that I have done so far, the elbows can bend up to 90 degree. Whereas a typical MG kit usually can bend up 180 degree. The knees can roughly bend up to 180 degree. As the articulation of the elbow only allows the arm to bend up to 90 degree, the posing capability of this kit is lower as compared to the other MG kit which I has built so far.
Before assembling the parts
There will be a hole at the center of the torso. This is where the GN Drive/ LED units can be installed. A maximum of 2 LED can be use on the GN Drive.
*Note: If you intend to use LED units on the Gundam exia, do not use the paste stickers at the center of the torso as this will block out the light coming from the LED units.
The MG Gundam Exia comes with dry transfer decals and it is recommended to use the decals before assembling the parts together. I have also done some panel linings on the legs, head and waist.
After assembly
The MG Gundam Exia has very good proportion. It does not have any issue balancing on its both feet and all the parts are very well secure. There is no issue of parts falling off. I find that when the LED units is ON the light coming out from its torso is very bright.
The Gundam Exia is also known as Gundam Seven Swords and that it why the MG Gundam Exia is equipped with 7 swords as its armaments. The Seven Swords consist of two GN dagger, two GN Beam Saber, one GN Long Sword and Short Sword and the signature weapon of the Gundam Exia, the GN Sword.
I have sprayed painted the shield, the GN Long Sword and Short Sword as well as the GN Sword. I mainly use light gun metal and metallic silver on the blades and handles of the sword.
The GN Long Sword and Short Sword can be mounted on the side of the waist using a ball joint to secure the GN Swords on the waist of Gundam Exia. It may take some time to mount the GN Swords on the waist as the ball joints are quite small. The GN Beam daggers can be mounted on back side of the waist. Wheares, the GN Beam Sabers is mounted on the back side of the shoulder armor. The Shield is fairly easy to mount on the forearm. However, the GN Sword is quite hard to mount it on the forearm of the Gundam Exia. It will take some time and patience to mount the GN Sword.
When the GN Long Sword and Short Sword is mounted on the waist, it will affect the range of movement of the legs in terms of spreading apart. When trying the spread apart the legs, the handle of the GN Long and Short Sword will hit the torso and this will limit the range of movement of the legs in terms of spreading apart.
Pros
– Has large quantity of weapons and this allow the Gundam Exia to perform various poses
– No loose parts
– No weight issue
– LED units can be installed onto the GN Drive
Cons
– Elbows can only bend up to 90 degree which limits the posing capability of the kit.(Most MG that I have built can bend perform a 180 degree bend with their elbow)
Generally, I really enjoyed building the MG Gundam Exia and having the feature to intstall LED units to a gunpla kit is very unique as this feature is not found at a lot of the MG kits. In conclusion, the MG Gundam Exia was a solid build and I would recommend others to try it out if they are interested.
For those who find that the MG Gundam Exia is too big in terms of size or it is too pricey to afford, then the RG Gundam Exia is also a good kit to try out. The RG Gundam Exia offered the same amount of details that the MG offered and it is not as pricey as a MG Kit.
